Week 5-6 Homework: Project 1 Reviews- Judging a book by its cover

04 October, 2019

How many times have you been told not to judge a book by its cover? Well, that does apply unless it is the cover has an AR scene popping up for you. For our first project in the class, we had to pick a 'classic' book and provide augmented details and a scene when the cover of the book was pointed at by the camera (AR glasses in the future). Scanning the front cover had to show a scene from the book, details of the book, and a spokesperson who would encourage you to read the book. The augmentation for the back cover includes details about the book along with reviews (textual and videos). Graduate students had to provide the text in at least two languages.

Everyone in the class came up with very creative and visually appealing projects and made me want to go pick up and read all the books, or at least stare at the augmentation for a while. So I downloaded their projects and ran them on my laptop, using the image on my phone as a target. Out of all the projects, there are two that caught my eye:
  1. Jake Terhark's project on Fahrenheit 451
Jake developed a very visually appealing scene for Fahrenheit 451's front cover.

  3. Nicole Laczny's project on The Complete Adventures of Curious George
Nicole's project on Curious George is adorable and would make any child want to pick up the book and get lost in Curious George's adventures.

PS: To play around with the projects, I used my laptop screen as a target and my phone's camera as a webcam (cause it is clearer). The images on this page are to show that I actually did try out the projects by myself and differ from those on the review pages.
